Babysat Mats

She calls Maximilian "Mats" and had a blast with him at the park and around the house. We saw a four foot long dead octopus washed up on the beach! The kids were more impressed with the choo-choo trains.

Tractor Baby

Today we went to the Seattle Home Show, an outing that became quite an adventure and a keen way to entertain a 20 month old little one. She loved walking around the big place, unafraid of large adults. She went in all the model homes. Her favorite spot was the closet behind the prop clothes. She pretended to take a bath in every hot tub I humored her by lifting her into (except for the ones that actually contained water). She was totally into the kids-size play cabin which included a kitchen set and a working door and window. The little garden displays with tiny foot bridges were popular. As you saw above she had fun driving tractors for pretend. She waved, said hi and flirted with a number of unidentified people at the show.
Later, we went to Woodland Park kids park, just off Phinney Avenue. I would show her how to climb up or over rocks and logs that were maybe too big for her and then she would try it. She did good and can now say the word mountain.
On our way home we stopped for ice cream which we shared in the car while in the parking lot. She was obviously getting tired. Sure enough, just seconds after putting her back in her carseat she was asleep.
Today I noticed that she is very diplomatic and not easily put off in play situations. She gladly yields to shouts of "mine" by other kids and is quick to find an alternative toy to play with. In interacting, she is quick to smile and say hello.
Watch her in motion (warning file size 700kb).

Super Elephant

Seattle has a few odd icons. Here is one of them, just off highway 99 and Denny Way.

There she stood, right in the middle of the Center.

Walking Around Town

The Seattle Center has lots of safe, empty open space for kids to walk around as if they are in charge.

When She's Ready

When she is ready, there is no stopping her. Once her shoes and coat are on she says "ready" and expects you to get going. She hustles you along with polite suggestions like "coat daddy", "tschoos" (shoes), "pock" (park), "go", etc.
Her vocabulary is short and sweet. Tonight, past her bed time, in order, she said, "wagher" (water), "pee-pee", "cookie", "out", "puggle" (puzzle). She was having trouble falling asleep, but it seemed like she was thinking of any excuse to get out of bed.

Being A Daddy

It turns out that my great grandpa was quite a prolific photographer. Here is a photo of him, his wife and his daughter - my grandma. This photo was taken over 75 years ago. The trees, river and rocks in the background are the same ones that are there today. The people have changed.

That little girl married in the 40s and is today a great grandma.

The great grandson of the parents in the photo is now a daddy who also takes pictures of his family. The 1920s were wonderful.

Frost

The frost descended on us silently and completely. We responded by scraping it.

Bellingham Sky

After a blustery day, the sun set the sky on fire as it slid behind the earth.
