Little Hiker
On her birthday we went for a hike. She scooted around at the trailhead.

It was a hot day. But a perfect day for a hike. The Lake Serene trail is undercover about 80% of the time, so the sun wasn't too bad.
The first half of the trail is flat. Once you get to the beautiful waterfall the trail changes dramatically. It is steep and rocky. It is quite well maintained, with lots of stair sections built in to the steep hillside. It is remarkable the size of the trees that grow along the steep section of the trail. Five foot in diameter hemlocks and cedars dangle over cliffs. Their roots holding to the side of the cliff with all their might.
The lake is well worth the hike. Estella enjoyed the trek up, with a bit of help from snacks. She wasn't content the whole time in the backpack, so I carried her in my arms probably half the way up. On the way down she was asleep most of the way. She had gotten so tired playing at the lake, where she went skinny dipping. At the end of the trail we had to pack up our stuff plus a little baby!
We finished the day at a great Mexican restaurant in Monroe. She loves torillas and beans. They gave her a birthday treat on the house. She liked that!
