Super color saturated kids

What if we lived in a super color saturated world? This is what the family would look like if we all dye our hair and wear outrageous colors.

Baby Clappstar

babyc1 (30k image)

Robyn went to the doctor today and got to see Baby for a second time. This time baby was wiggling around and heart beating quickly. The little child is just about 1 inch long. See for yourself.

The mind is a terrible thing to waste and so interesting

Local scientist John Medina, Ph.D has started an interesting research endeavor called the The Talaris Research Institute. They are studying the actual logic by which brains learn and process. This article on the development of the infant brain is quite intriguing. It seems that language has a lot to do with general perception.
I went to a class at UPC tonight entitled Christian Faith in an Age of Skepticism and Uncertainty: Exploration of the Dynamics of Belief and Unbelief. Very, very interesting and provocative. Anyway, next week John Medina is talking about Skepticism and Science.

You can't see it but you can...

Check it out! You thought your immune system was some microscopic component of the mysterious body humors flowing hither and thither. It is much more high tech than that...and smart. Watch here as a leukocyte (neutrophil) chases and catches a rogue bacteria. Things to look for - the directed, specific response to stimuli (the neutrophil is tracking and chasing the invader) and the single minded specificity of the chase. If you think behind the scenes for a moment, there is even more going on. Cell-cytoskeleton is dynamically altered to mobilize the cell, while chemotaxis receptors are working overtime following the bacteria. Now just think, your own body cells are squirming around right now fighting invaders and mopping up infection. Incredible!
